Madden NFL 2005
Madden NFL 2005 is an American football simulation video game based on the NFL that was developed by EA Tiburon, along with Exient Entertainment and Budcat Creations, and published by EA Sports. The 16th installment of the Madden NFL series, it features former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis on the cover. Al Michaels and John Madden return as game commentators. Released on August 9, 2004, the game is the first Madden game to feature Xbox Live. It was the last Madden game to be released on the original PlayStation, and the first Madden game to be released on the Nintendo DS, where it was a launch title.

ESPN NFL 2K5 was the first in the 2K series priced at $19.99 the day it shipped, much lower than market leader Madden NFL at $49.99. This greatly reduced Madden sales that year; one EA Sports developer recalled that "[i]t scared the hell out of us".[53] EA reduced Madden NFL 2005's price to $29.95. In December 2004 EA Sports acquired an exclusive rights agreement with the NFL and NFLPA to be the sole creator of NFL video games.[54]
Electronic Arts has announced that it will release a Collector's Edition of Madden NFL 2005 exclusively for the PS2 in August. The $59.95 Collector's Edition, which celebrates the popular series' 15th year, will ship with what can only be described as a lot of Madden-related goodness not included with the regular version of the game.
In addition to the regular version of Madden NFL 2005 in limited-edition collectible packaging, the Collector's Edition will include: playable classic versions of Madden from the 16-bit era and two from the PlayStation era, a Madden trivia challenge with over 1000 questions, "Madden Moments" spanning the past 15 seasons, and historical playoff teams from the past 15 years--each with their authentic uniforms. Other goodies exclusive to the Collector's Edition will include: bonus video content including footage of "The Madden Phenomenon," "The Music of Madden," and a documentary looking into how the game is developed every year from scratch.
Online play using the Madden NFL 2005 Collector's Edition will, of course, be compatible with the regular PS2 version of the game. Online play will also be featured in the Xbox and PC versions scheduled for release in August and September, respectively.
